Security CAD Technician

Location:

Nottingham, England, United Kingdom

Job Description:

SGW provides a wide portfolio of professional services relating to safety & security of the built environment. Our projects are diverse and spread across a number of vertical market sectors internationally.

Due to continued expansion, SGW now wish to appoint an experienced CAD technician based at our Nottinghamshire UK office.

The position will focus on the conceptual and detailed design of complex and often sophisticated security, building management and fire systems, including access control, CCTV, intruder detection, physical security measures, fire alarms, life safety systems and integrated building management systems.

Candidates should be experienced and competent in preparing high quality drawings using Autodesk Building Design 2016 software, specifically in 2D AutoCAD. Further experience of Visio/Smart draw design software would be advantageous and the successful candidate should be eager and willing to learn new technologies and products.

Job Purpose:

Prepares architectural plans and security related drawings.

Duties:

Prepares concept security drawings by studying architectural security specifications, liaising with security consultants; creating a picture of the physical, functional, and aesthetic requirements.

Prepares final drawings by studying architectural security sketches, security specifications, and supporting documents; preparing drawings of landscaping security improvements, vehicle and pedestrian access and circulation routes, security zoning plans, security risk assessment and vulnerable point drawings, CCTV design site and floor plans, security systems design and floor plans, CCTV and security systems schematics; drawing multiple views; identifying dimensions, angles, curvatures, tolerances, and materials.

Identifies and verifies security specifications by examining architectural documents, and liaising with the security consulting team to develop deliverables throughout the safety and security consulting lifecycle.

Modifies drawings by studying changes; redrawing requirements; changing identifications.

Resolves discrepancies by collecting and analysing information; conferring with architects.

Keeps CAD workstation hardware and software operational by following manufacturer’s instructions and established procedures.

Maintains data base by entering data; completing backups.

Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications.

Enhances department and organisation reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

 

Skills/Qualifications:

Full Autodesk AutoCAD knowledge of 2D Drafting, Drafting Tools, Design Skills, Conceptual Skills, Presentation Skills, Verbal Communication, Data Entry Skills, Functional and Technical Skills, Action Oriented, Thoroughness, Innovation. Prepared to develop skills with BIM, Revit and 3D Max Autodesk software platforms. Knowledge of CCTV and Security Systems design is preferred but will also consider applications from technicians who have a Building Services Engineering or Architectural background.

Primary responsibilities will be the preparation of feasibility, outline and detailed design reports and documentation relating to security, fire and building management related projects. You will prepare tender package components such as site and building plans showing point by point requirements of the project, system schematics and visualisations.

You will be expected to further develop a reasonable competence in AutoCAD Building Design Suite including 3D Max & Revit and Adobe Creative Suite software and should be eager and willing to learn new software, technologies and products. You will also be expected to participate in continued professional development (CPD) activities.
