It is an executive body of the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), with bus franchising (from May 2017) and highway management powers similar to Transport for London. Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) has taken the place of Centro, the former Passenger Transport Executive.
TfWM has a highly resilient, state of the art CCTV facility built in 2012, principally to centralise monitoring of all its bus stations and park & ride facilities across the region. In March 2017, SGW were appointed as CCTV consultant to carry out a fully costed feasibility study for expansion of this control room facility. Following a site inspection, the project life cycle began with a significant design phase, involving 2D CAD design, 3D CAD design, detailed specification production and management of both sub-consultants and contractors for the production of full cost estimates.
SGW were responsible for providing regular progress reports and to the TfWM Safety and Security Manager and the TfWM Safer Travel Officer (Projects). In addition to this, regular meetings were scheduled with the client team, to provide record documents with updates on progress to date, as well as responding to requests for interpretation and additional information.
